Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Event

From January 8th-14th we are planning to host
a group of students from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary,
who will come to help us canvass the North Valleys to
let the community know about our new congregation
there. There are several ways that you can help with
this effort. Please plan ahead to host some seminary
students in your home or provide meals for them during
the week. We would also like to raise some money to
defray their travel expenses to come to Reno/Sparks.
The more money we raise, the more students may be able
to come and help us. If you can make a special gift
toward their travel costs, please put your gift in the
offering plate in an enveloped marked “Seminary
Students.” Thank you for your help!

Back to (Sunday) School 2017

The kickoff for our  new Sunday School year is
Sunday, September 10.  Sunday School students will
sing the Verse of the Day and a hymn in church.  After
church the congregation is invited to an Open House
with coffee hour snacks in the Sunday School
classrooms.   The teachers this year are Miss Alice
Foster, Pre - 1st, Miss Kristine Foster, 2nd - 4th,
and Mrs. Jan Bennett, 5th - 8th.  All children in our
church from preschool through 8th grade are encouraged
to attend Sunday School and to bring a friend.

Sunday School News - August 2017

Sunday School has not taken a summer break and the students are now learning some of the Old Testament Lessons such as The Three Men in the Fiery Furnace and Daniel in the Lion's Den.  They are also preparing to sing on  "Back to Sunday School" Sunday, which is Sunday, September 10.  On BTSS Sunday there will be an open house in the classrooms for all church members and some students will move into a new class, depending on what grade they are entering.

Pastor Derme Vacation - August 2017

Pastor Derme will be out of town from August 7 to 17 on vacation. Pastor Hillmer will preach at SotM on August 13. Vicar Jensen will preach for the first time at SotM on August 20 (when Pastor Derme will be leading worship at The Springs).

SotM Book Club

Is anyone interested in starting a book club?  I have a new idea for the first book:  Katharina & Martin Luther by Michelle DeRusha.  Since this is a big anniversary year in our Lutheran Church, I thought it would be nice to get more of an in depth view of the Luthers' lives and the times in which they lived.   Please let me know if you are interested, and a tentative first meeting date could be on Tues., Sept. 4, at my house.  However, I am open to whatever meeting times and places work for you.  So contact me, Jan Bennett, at 853-1409 or janm.benn@sbcglobal.net if you are interested.

Welcome the Vicar to Nevada - 2017 to 2018

Nathanael Jensen is arriving in Nevada on July 28th for a 1-year assignment. Our goal is to have Vicar’s apartment 100% ready before he arrives. Consider donating an item or a Gift Card.  Contact Timothy Reynolds at timothyreynolds123@gmail.com or 208-571-7004.  Timothy will coordinate all donation items and cash-donations.

3 options for making donations to the Vicar:

· Gift Card for supplies, food – Wal-Mart or Target

· Donate a specific item (donated to charity in July 2018)

· Loan a specific item (returned to you July 2018)

This year's theme is “UNDEFEATED in Christ!”  Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ  (1 Corinthians 15:57). If you are planning to attend camp and would like financial aid, please speak with Mr. Doug Franke.
